How to Build a Gazebo

When it gets hot in the summer there’s nothing nicer that seeking out some shade with a cold drink. Gazebos are a very stylish addition to the garden which can be used by all the family in many ways. You may want to use it as a picnic area, to house a Jacuzzi or perhaps even a fitness area.

Kit or Custom Build?

When building a gazebo you may choose to go to your local DIY store and buy a gazebo kit or if you are more experienced you can build your own from scratch. There is a variety of gazebo kits to choose from in different materials however if you feel you require something different or extra special then building it yourself or employing the services of a carpenter is the best option.

Materials

When choosing the type of material for your gazebo it is important that you don’t just base your decision on appearance and price. The type and quality of the material directly affects the gazebo’s performance. You don’t want to end up with a gazebo which falls down on someone in a few years time!

You may choose hardwood, plastic or composite plastic designed to look like wood for your gazebo. When choosing wood then you need to make sure that it has been pressure treated or treated with chemicals. When selecting wood that has been chemically treated find out if it is environmentally, ACQ (Alkaline Copper Quaternary) is said to be very good.

I’ve always liked the idea of having a gazebo. I think I’ll get a kit because making it myself from scratch looks too difficult.
