Lots of people find that they need to get rid of a tree for one reason or another. Perhaps it’s become diseased, is causing problems with your drains, is blocking out light or has been blown over by a storm. Whatever the reason, you will find that there is a big tree stump and root system still to deal with.
There is nothing inherently wrong with having tree stumps and roots in your garden. Over time they will rot down and in the process the rotting wood is actually very good for wildlife. Insects will live in the rotting wood and this is great for the local bird population.
Of course, the problem for most garden-owners is that the stumps just look bad and also take up quite a bit of room. You might want to plant something else to replace the tree that is no more. So what do you do to get rid of them?
Well the easiest but most expensive option is to just get a company in to do the work. They have the know-how and technology to do this and you won’t heave to break sweat at all. But of course, you might not have the money to pay a company to do the work so want to do it yourself.
First a word of caution: be very careful because even experienced people can do themselves an injury. It’s important that you follow the safety instructions of any equipment or product that you use.
Another thing to point out is that all trees are different and some trees such as pint have a very broad but shallow root system whilst others such as oak have very a very deep root system. Broad but shallow roots are the easiest to deal with and will basically involve digging with hand tools such as loppers, shovel and axe, so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem to dig up.
With a deep root system you will need to work a lot harder to get rid of the stump and roots. Over time the stump will rot down and it will be much easier to dig it up. Patience is a virtue that most people don’t have as much as they would like. There are ways of speeding up the decomposing process.
There are tree stump removal products on the market that will help you. First of all you should use a chainsaw to cut the stump as low to the ground as possible. Be very careful about this process because you could get hurt. You can then use a power drill to create holes in the stump and then you pour the tree removal product down into the holes.
Some people even choose to set fire to the tree stump. Again, you need to be careful about this however the fire you create will be slow-burning. You still need to be careful though and keep a watchful eye on it.
You can also use a tree stump grinder to grind down the stump however they are very expensive buy. They are can be used to very quickly grind the stump into chips and you can go as deep as 10 inches under the ground.
Hopefully you will now have a good idea of what you need to do in order to get rid of the tree stumps and roots that are in your garden.
