7 Anjou Pears Recipes: French Magic Salad for Nutritious Dishes 2022

The D’Anjou pear, also known as the Beurré d’Anjou or simply Anjou, is a cultivar of European Pear that has a shorter neck than most other varieties. It is believed to have originated in Belgium or France sometime between the early and middle of the 19th century.

This large, yellowish-green pear has a thin skin and remains firm even when it is fully ripe; it is recommended that you consume it fresh for the best flavor. It can be baked or poached when it is just slightly underripe, but once it is fully ripe, its flavor is sweet and mellow, and it contains a lot of juice, which makes it an excellent choice for salads and snacks.

The flavor, applications, and consistency of red Anjous are very similar to those of green Anjous. Red Anjous, which are typically a dark maroon red in color, exhibit little to no change in color as they ripen, which is another quality that they have in common with their Green Anjou counterparts. Red Anjous are easily recognizable by their appearance, which is similar to that of an egg.

Anjou Pears are cholesterol-free, low in sodium, and contain very little fat. In addition to this, they are an excellent source of fiber, vitamin C, and iron. They are a wonderful digestive aid and work well in any elimination diet you choose to follow. They contribute to the restoration of regular bowel function.

An Anjou pear of high quality will be of medium size or larger and will not have any scars or bruises. When pears are ready, you can tell because they will give in to gentle pressure at the stem end. The months of October through June are when you can buy Anjou pears. Steer clear of Anjous that have any soft spots or scars that go deeper than the skin. If there is a significant amount of yellow on an Anjou pear, then it is overripe.
