4 Red Bananas Recipes: Quick, Healthy Lunch Ideas 2023

Bananas are in short supply in the United States. Although you can find the standard Cavendish banana stocked in just about every store in the country, there aren’t very many other varieties available and they’re hard to come by. But you should not hesitate to make a purchase if you ever come across a banana that has a skin that is dark reddish-purple in color. When compared to regular yellow Cavendish bananas, red bananas have a texture that is creamier, a taste that is sweeter, and an overall flavor profile that is more flavorful. The flesh is pale pink in color and has a flavor that is faintly reminiscent of raspberry. They are slightly plumper and more compact than regular bananas.

Carotene gives the red banana its distinctive color, which is due to the banana’s presence. The deeper the red color of the banana, the higher the levels of vitamin C and carotene it contains. In addition to this, they are an excellent source of fiber and vitamin B6.

Raw and peeled right out of your hand, eating red bananas the same way you would eat regular bananas is the best way to enjoy them. Because of their naturally sweet flavor, they work particularly well when baked into breads and desserts, and even when fried in butter or oil.

Make sure to choose bananas that have a dark purple color. If the peel is lighter in color, it means that the fruit has not yet reached its full maturity. Bananas need to be allowed to sit out at room temperature for several days in order for them to become ripe. Because they are more fragile than Cavendish bananas, you need to handle them with extra care to prevent them from becoming bruised.
